Plan C

Football FallLabor Day was a week ago and I can now comfortably say that summer is over.  I mean, it’s Arizona and still over 100° but school has started and football season is back.  Of course the biggest factor is that I am sick of summer, I am ready for fall.

So on that note, I’ve decided to start a new novella that is not specifically set in the summer. I am excited to start this new project, recently I’ve spent a lot of time on rewrites of an older project. Getting a new idea and being able to run with it is making me very happy. This weekend I got most of my notes done and I’ve already started the first chapter and it’s going well.  A few more thousand words and I’ll be able to get it out to test readers. After that we’ll see about getting it out in e-book form.

So, that’s my week.  What are you up to?

Almost there

We are leaving in a few days for our last minute summer vacation.  I’ll be spending the next few days preparing for the trip and getting the house straightened up.  I am excited for the trip but I don’t think it has quite sunk in yet that we are going.  We put it together just a few weeks ago, I usually plan things out months in advance and it’s taking me a bit to come around to the reality of it.  I’ve also been racing to finish a house project before we go so I haven’t even had time to think about the vacation beyond looking at the calendar.

Blue notebook

Of course, that means that my writing on the novella has dwindled but I am looking forward to getting some work done when we go tothe beach.  I am packing my notebook along with my many, many sticky notes. I’ll spend a good amount of time putting together a better outline.  Hopefully by the time we get home I’ll also have a bit more written.  My goal is to have the novella finished by the end of September.  Here’s hoping for no major interruptions.

I’ll post again on Friday!  Have a great week!

Summer plans

Since 2009 I have been participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNo) every year in November.  In fact, my first Sunset Canyon book was started during the November challenge.  If you aren’t familiar with NaNo,  participants are challenged to write 50,000 words of a new novel in 30 days. In recent years, they’ve added Camp NaNo as an extra challenge, it’s a little less strict allowing each writer to choose their own writing goal.

This year they held camp sessions in April and July.  I spent April finishing my November project but I wasn’t sure what to do for July.  I didn’t really want to start anything new since I need to work on rewrites for my first Sunset Canyon story.  I was rolling around different ideas when I suddenly had a great idea, well, I think it’s a great idea.  A novella would be a great way to introduce additional characters and kick off the series.

So far, I’ve gotten about half of it written.  I sprained my wrist in mid July slipping on wet grass during a thunderstorm.  It was very funny at the time and I didn’t even realize I’d injured myself until later that night.  I was in an immobilizing type of wrist brace that made typing somewhat difficult.  I’ve got a lot of handwritten notes to work off of, thankfully I injured my left wrist, at least my right hand was working otherwise handwriting wouldn’t have been an option.

So, that’s what I’ll be working on this week, organizing my handwritten notes and getting more writing done.  What’s going on with you this week?

Have a good week!
